Hello, and welcome to my website.
My name is Lorna and you’ve clicked on this page to find out a little about me.
I am a retired Police Officer. I thoroughly enjoyed my career but sadly with only a few years to serve, an injury sustained whilst on duty meant I was medically retired from the Met Police (MPS). During my career I gained many years experience in territorial policing and emergency response. I was also a trained Licensed Search Officer, which means I was trained in proven systematic search procedures and techniques applied to all aspects of counter-terrorism and crime search. My specialist knowledge and experience took me across the country and also meant that I was selected to utilise my skills in the run up to and during London 2012 where I was based at the Olympic Park and had responsibility for the counter terrorist searches within a specific area. Throughout my career I had the opportunity to work with and alongside general purpose dogs, drugs and firearms dogs and obviously explosive detection dogs.
I have always had a natural affinity with dogs, and have been brought up with German Shepherds and the odd mongrel since birth. I have always taken a keen interest in learning about how dogs learn and communicate with each other. Since being a child I have trained all my own dogs, some have been more challenging than others, but they have all taught me a great deal. Whilst as an adult, my work in the police service, understandably, took a great deal of my time; I would still find the time to increase my learning and experience in relation to working with and helping dogs.
I have worked with and helped thousands of people over the years. Most problems are down to us humans, and yes I will always say it as it is. Dogs are much easier and more loyal than us humans; many humans cannot take criticism or constructed advice and because of that I will guarantee you I will never please everyone and will always upset someone, that’s just life.
I have studied Canine behaviour and psychology along with attending various seminars; (I am a member of ISAP – The International Society of Animal Professionals). I am always keen to widen my knowledge further with worthwhile courses or seminars, including courses about animal emotions and the effect they have on the animals behaviour (not Dog specific).
Retirement from the police does mean I now have more time to spend doing what I love and that is helping people learn and understand more about their dogs in order to resolve their individual dog behaviour issues. Just like us humans, no dog is perfect and they all come with their own characters and ways about them. They are all individual and they do have their own emotions and feelings, and they do behave in different ways. So, to create that perfect bond between owner and dog I believe that we as humans need to learn and understand about how our dog thinks and communicates. Once you have mastered that the rest will fall into place.
I am now bored talking about me so I will only say one more thing….. Yes, I am retired and yes I do enjoy my life. I am in a fortunate position whereby I do not need to work and as such I’m not interested in earning a fortune. My time though is very valuable to me and as much as I will happily give up some of my precious time and knowledge but I will only work with people who are genuine and committed to learn and prepared to put the work in, in order to do the best for their dog(s).
So, give me a shout if you would like any help….
